Fifteen travellers were burnt to death while 25 others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash along the Enagi-Mokwa Road in Niger State.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in the state, Aishatu Sa’adu, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Sunday.
According to her, the crash, which occurred on Saturday evening, involved two buses travelling in the same direction.
She said the buses collided head-on after one of the drivers allegedly attempted to overtake wrongly at a bend, resulting in both vehicles catching fire.
“Fifteen people were burnt to death in the crash, while 25 others sustained injuries,” she said.
Mrs Sa’adu said the injured victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, and General Hospital, Kutigi, for treatment.
She attributed the crash to speeding and wrongful overtaking, urging motorists to observe speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking.
“The accident was as a result of over speeding and wrongfully overtaking.
“I advise motorists to always maintain a good speed limit and avoid wrongful overtaking,” she said.
