An unraveling that is threatening to stop Ladi Adebutu from having another at the gubernatorial seat of the Ogun state as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is happening.

Adebutu, a serial contestant on the same platform, was the candidate of the PDP for the 2023 Ogun state gubernatorial election.

He lost the election that gave Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) a second term in office by less than 14,000 votes.

While Adebutu – who is the son of the definition of wealth with his hand in many business pies, including lottery Kessington Adebutu – has initiated plans to have another at the gubernatorial seat, insiders say a coalition of forces within the PDP has risen to stop him.

The opposition, with backing from stakeholders in the party outside the state, wants a fresh approach and candidate to give the PDP a better chance of winning the 2027 gubernatorial election.

In exchange for shelving his gubernatorial ambition, Adebutu is being pressured to take the senatorial ticket of his zone – Ogun East.

A development that would pitch him against the present occupier, Senator Gbenga Daniel.

Daniel, famously known as OGD (Otunba Gbenga Daniel) is a former two-term governor of Ogun state who left the PDP after 22 years to join the APC in 2012.

He won his election to the Senate in 2023 with the highest votes ever recorded – 115,147.

Insiders say the move to stop Adebutu is premised on allegations that he has fractured – and is still fracturing – the PDP with the manner he is going about realizing his gubernatorial ambition.

The allegations championed by the Chairman of the party in Ogun state, Sikirulai Ogundele have hit the public place.

Ogundele and the other stakeholders are insisting Adebutu shelves his gubernatorial ambition to allow the party to mend fences with aggrieved persons and rebuild ahead of the 2027 election.
