The ongoing 2026 Women August Meeting engagements of the Action Peoples Party (APP) senatorial candidate for Owerri Zone, Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, PhD, continued on Tuesday, August 18, as his train berthed in Ubomiri and Ogwa communities in Mbaitoli LGA, where he joined women at their respective annual gatherings and renewed his commitment to women empowerment, inclusion and grassroots development.
At St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, Ubomiri, Amadi was received by a mammoth gathering of women, young and old, who despite the rainy day, had converged not only for their annual August Meeting in keeping with the long-standing tradition through which women deliberate on issues affecting their families, communities and collective development, but to demonstrate in clear and practical terms their endorsement of Mazi Chima Amadi as their preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For the women, Amadi’s presence was not just another opportunity for direct engagement with a candidate seeking to represent Owerri Zone in the Senate, but a moment to express their appreciation to him for honouring their invitation and always identifying with them at an important moment in their annual community calendar.
Speaking through their leadership, the women thanked Amadi for joining them and expressed their readiness to partner with Mazi Ggburugburu in the actualisation of his political aspiration, while calling for leadership that pays greater attention to the economic and social challenges confronting women at the grassroots.

Addressing the gathering, Amadi expressed delight at the unity, organisation and strong sense of community development demonstrated by the women, describing the August Meeting as one of the most enduring grassroots platforms through which Igbo women have contributed immensely to the development of our communities.
“Our women have never been spectators in the development of our communities. They support families, sustain businesses, build institutions and respond to community needs. What they deserve is a system that recognises these enormous contributions and creates greater opportunities for them to prosper,” Amadi said.

He maintained that the August Meeting must increasingly become a platform for advancing women’s economic empowerment, strengthening their participation in governance and developing practical responses to the everyday challenges confronting families and communities. He went further, to assure the women that they would occupy a strategic place in his legislative agenda, stressing that women should be treated as partners in development and not merely as a voting bloc remembered only during elections. In line with his philanthropic disposition, Amadi made a donation of Six million naira in support of community development programmes of the women.
From Ubomiri, Amadi proceeded to Umunnato Isi Ogwa Autonomous Community, where another enthusiastic gathering of women received him at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, venue of their 2026 August Meeting. He expressed gratitude for their invitation and said he was delighted to share in an occasion devoted to unity, interaction and community development.

The President of the women, Mrs. Ngozi Judith Onuoha, in her address, welcomed Amadi and expressed the appreciation of the women for honouring their invitation. The gathering also provided an opportunity for the women to interact directly with the senatorial candidate and place before him their expectations for leadership and representation.
Responding, Amadi said political leadership must deliberately go to where the people are, listen to them and understand the realities they confront daily, noting that the August Meeting provides a valuable opportunity to hear directly from women who bear enormous responsibilities in sustaining families and communities.
He reiterated his commitment to pursuing legislative interventions and partnerships that would expand economic opportunities for women, support small businesses and give women a stronger voice in decisions affecting their lives and communities, insisting that economically empowered women invariably translate to stronger families and more prosperous communities. The APP senatorial candidate made a donation of two million in support of the women’s ongoing project.
The Ubomiri and Ogwa engagements form part of Amadi’s ongoing interaction with women across Owerri Zone during the 2026 August Meeting season, through which he has continued to advocate a people-centred approach to representation anchored on listening, inclusion, economic empowerment and sustainable community development.
Amadi and his team ably led by his Director General, Chief Henry Onwukwe (Apiti) made a brief stopover at the residence of the APP candidate for Mbaitoli State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly election, Chief ABC Onyeji, where they exchanged pleasantries with the party leaders and critical stakeholders of the LGA.
