The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure victory in both the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election and the 2027 presidential election, citing the party’s growing strength and nationwide support base.
Yilwatda made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja while inaugurating the APC National Campaign Council for the Ekiti governorship election scheduled for June 20.
During the event, he officially presented the party’s flag to the APC governorship candidate and incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, who is seeking re-election for a second term.
The APC chairman praised Oyebanji’s performance in office, highlighting achievements in infrastructure development, social welfare programmes, scholarship initiatives and healthcare support services.
According to him, the governor has not only improved infrastructure across the state but has also earned the trust and goodwill of the people.
“You are connecting roads and connecting hearts across the state. We celebrate you, and I thank God for giving you to the people of Ekiti and to our party as well.
“Today, we present you to the people of Ekiti for a second term in office. As a party, we are proud and happy that we have you. You are one of the best candidates for this election,” Yilwatda said.
The APC national chairman further boasted that no political party in Nigeria could match the calibre of individuals currently within the APC, insisting that the party possesses the structure, manpower and resources needed to win elections across the country.
“APC has the strength and is prepared to win any election,” he stated.
Yilwatda also dismissed concerns about campaign funding, stressing that the party has the capacity to mobilise resources and grassroots support effectively.
He added that the APC was building an inclusive campaign council for the Ekiti election, bringing together experienced leaders, mobilisers and fundraisers capable of delivering victory at every polling unit.
Also speaking at the event, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who serves as Co-Chairman of the campaign council, urged party members aspiring to contest elective offices in 2027 to accept the outcomes of APC primary elections in good faith.
Akpabio congratulated those who would eventually emerge as candidates for the National Assembly and advised unsuccessful aspirants to remain loyal to the party.
He further assured that the National Assembly would support the party’s eventual list of successful candidates.
Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, who chairs the campaign council, described the council’s mission as ambitious but achievable.
According to him, campaign structures have already been established across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards of Ekiti State to ensure effective grassroots mobilisation.
Sani said the campaign would focus heavily on engaging young people and women, whom he described as critical stakeholders in shaping the future of the state.
“Our campaign will not merely be a series of rallies; it will be a movement that resonates with the aspirations of the people,” he said.
He added that the election was not only about securing another term for Governor Oyebanji but also about sustaining the developmental strides recorded under the APC administration and ensuring that the benefits of good governance reach all residents of Ekiti State.
Sani urged members of the campaign council to remain united and committed to mobilising support for the party ahead of the election, expressing confidence that the APC would secure victory at the polls.
