Abia Assembly Condemns Ben Kalu’s Remark On Otti

The Abia State House of Assembly has strongly condemned remarks made by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, criticizing the state government’s performance.

The house members disclosed this on Wednesday, during a press briefing after their plenary session.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa said the comments were “insultive and offensive” and an attempt to project himself as a better alternative to Governor Alex Otti.

“We take it as insultive and offensive for him to come to Abia State and pretend that he’s working with the state, but in all honesty, he’s trying to project himself as a better alternative,” Emeruwa said

The Assembly described Governor Otti’s administration as “doing very well” and praised his leadership, saying he has made the job of lawmakers easy by implementing laws and resolutions.

“The governor is doing very well. There is no single lawmaker in Abia State House of Assembly that is not grateful to serve under Dr. Alex Otti’s administration,” The deputy speaker, Augustine Okezie said.

The Assembly also warned Kalu against trying to undermine the governor’s efforts, saying the people of Abia State are happy with the administration and will not support any attempt to destabilize it.

“We are not interested in antagonizing anybody. What we are saying is, please, if anybody is interested to contest for the seat of governor, for the governor of Abia State, he is free. It’s the people that will say who will be their governor,” Okezie added.

The Assembly’s condemnation of Kalu’s remarks highlights the growing tension between the state government and the federal lawmaker.

NEWSNGR also reports that it’s clear that the Abia State government will not take Ben Kalu’s remarks lightly.
