Abia Govt Warns Against Illegal Revenue Collection

The Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu has reaffirmed the state government’s strong stance against the illegal collection of fees from motorists by impersonators in Ohafia Local Government Area.

This warning comes after a recent incident where two individuals were assaulted by youths from Ebem Ohafia in response to these unlawful activities.

According to Engr. Emetu on Monday, the Abia State Government does not authorise any individual or group to collect fees or levies on its behalf without proper documentation and official endorsement from the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue.

“The actions of these unauthorised collectors not only violate the law but also undermine the trust and cooperation between the government and the citizens,” he stated.

The Deputy Governor has directed the State Taskforce Team, Ohafia Zone, to intensify efforts to combat illegal revenue collection and reassert its presence in the field.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and community service.

Engr. Emetu urged residents of Ohafia LGA and the entire state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities of illegal revenue collectors to the appropriate authorities.

“The Abia State Government is dedicated to the welfare of its citizens and will take all necessary measures to protect them from exploitation,” he assured.

The government assures citizens that it is committed to ensuring all financial transactions are conducted transparently and legally and will not tolerate any form of extortion or illegal collection of fees.
