A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, barely hours after officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sealed the structure and ordered its occupants to vacate the premises.
The building reportedly collapsed at about 8pm on Monday, prompting an emergency response involving personnel of the Federal Fire Service and other rescue agencies.
Emergency responders were seen at the scene working to gain access to the rubble and determine whether anyone was trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Three ambulances were also stationed at the scene as rescue teams continued efforts to evacuate any casualties that might be discovered.
The circumstances surrounding the collapse remained unclear as of press time.
However, the incident has renewed concerns about the safety of ageing and distressed buildings across Abuja, particularly structures previously identified by regulatory authorities as posing potential risks.
Rescue operations were still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
