ADC Blames Nigerian Govt For Trump’s Genocide Claim

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed the Federal Government for the recent claim by the United States President, Donald Trump, that there is an ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, ADC’s National Spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Trump’s remarks were a direct reflection of the Nigerian government’s failure to protect its citizens.

Trump had on Saturday ordered the Pentagon to prepare a possible plan of attack in Nigeria, warning that Christianity was “facing an existential threat” in Nigeria.

He also designated Nigeria as a “country of possible concern” over claim that Christians are being killed.

He said that if the killings were not stopped, the United States would intervene militarily, promising that such action would be “fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist attacks on our cherished Christians.”

On Sunday, the U.S. President repeated his threat of possible military action, saying aboard Air Force One that “it could be troops or air strikes. I envisage a lot of things.”

Reacting, Abdullahi urged the Nigerian government to take responsibility and stop making excuses for its inability to secure lives and property.

“If we prove incapable of understanding the enormity of the crises we face as a country, and other people use that opportunity to kick us around, we should look for balm, rub it, and face what matters,” he said.

The ADC spokesman, who is also a former National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused the ruling party of living in denial over the worsening security situation.

He recalled how the government once dismissed reports of a Christian genocide and said such denial had now drawn international condemnation.

According to him, “This situation we face requires humility from the government to acknowledge that whatever has been done in the last two years appears not to be working and to bend down and do the real work of protecting Nigerians.”

Abdullahi added that once the government proves capable of protecting all citizens, regardless of religion, “nobody will threaten to fix our problems for us.”
