“Adeleke To Contest Re-Election Under Accord Party” — Set To Announce Re Election Bid Before December 10, Amid PDP Internal Crisis

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has perfected plans to contest his re-election under the Accord Party (AP), investigation revealed.

Adeleke, in his resignation letter, said: “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect. I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”

Following the resignation from the PDP amid internal crisis, Adeleke would announce his decision to contest under the Accord Party any moment.

Investigation revealed that Adeleke had sealed an agreement with the leadership of the Accord Party and the party has agreed to raise his hand openly.

A top member of the PDP, who pleaded anonymity, confided that the people of the state would be informed officially very soon.

“It may be today or tomorrow, all I know is that the Accord Party has agreed to cede the governorship ticket to Adeleke and the announcement would be made very soon,” the source said.

Former governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, had on a radio programme said AP was fair and ruled out the possibility of joining the APGA.

“My moving with Adeleke to another party will depend on the party we are joining. If it is a party that I don’t believe in, I will excuse myself.

“If we said we are going to APGA, we will be entering a one-chance. The Accord Party is even fair. I know how the Accord Party was formed and the founder. Olusegun Obasanjo was the one who formed the Accord Party,” Oyinlola said.

A source within the AP confided that Adeleke is contesting his re-election under the platform.

He disclosed that the discussion had been sealed before the resignation of the governor from the PDP.

“I can confirm to you that party leaders have agreed to give him the governorship ticket. Everything has been sealed unless he changes his mind.

“I may not be authoritative about the date of his official announcement but it would be done on or before December 10,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially elected Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, popularly known as Fryo, as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election.

The announcement was made by the party’s electoral committee, led by Humphrey Abba, who reported that Adedamola received 919 votes out of the 957 delegates accredited for the primary election.

“There were 20 void votes out of the 957 accredited votes. Adebayo got 919 votes and is hereby returned as the governorship candidate of the PDP.”

Abba also noted that the committee had previously informed delegates that the second contestant, Ademola Adeleke, had left the party before the start of the election. As a result, Adedamola is now the sole candidate participating in the governorship race for the PDP.

The primary was conducted amid heightened security measures to prevent any incidents of violence.

Initially, the state PDP chairman, Mr. Sunday Bisi, had announced that the primary election would be canceled due to the ongoing crises affecting the party’s national leadership.

However, this assertion was challenged by the National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Shan, who affirmed that the primary would proceed as planned.

By 11am yesterday, the venue was filled to capacity with delegates, while the party’s electoral committee, led by Humphery Abba, was also present.

The committee includes notable members, such as Marc Jacob, Chief Sanya Atofarati, Mrs. Scholastica Kenebi, Chief Anene Azubuike, Mrs. Splendor Josephine, and Dr. Sunday Solarin, serving as Secretary.

In a surprising turn of events, the name of Governor Ademola Adeleke appeared on the ballot papers, even after he had resigned from the party earlier in the day.

Adeleke was listed as the first candidate on the ballot, while Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola was positioned as the second contestant.
