The Awareness Forum for Abia Development and Economic Advancement (AFA) has embarked on a city beautification project in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, to complement Governor Dr. Alex Otti’s ongoing efforts toward building a cleaner, greener, and more organized environment.
The initiative, which focuses on landscaping and flower planting on the Government setback opposite Ibeku High School, adjoining the fence of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, is part of AFA’s broader commitment to community-driven development and civic responsibility.
Speaking at the project site, the President of AFA, Chief Joe Eze Aru, said the initiative reflects the Forum’s belief that genuine development goes beyond building roads and structures, it includes creating an environment that inspires pride and well-being among citizens.
“Our vision at AFA is to contribute in practical ways to the rebuilding of Abia State. By beautifying Umuahia, we are aligning with the transformative agenda of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, who has consistently demonstrated a passion for order, environmental renewal, and the restoration of pride in our state capital,” Chief Aru says.
Chief Aru described the project as both a gesture of support and a call to action urging citizens, business owners, and community groups across the state to take ownership of their surroundings and complement the government’s efforts in making Abia a model of progress, order, and sustainability.
He emphasized that while the government continues to drive large-scale infrastructure and urban renewal projects, civic groups like AFA have a moral duty to reinforce those efforts through small but meaningful interventions that enhance the environment and encourage public participation.
“Governor Otti has set a clear standard for a New Abia, one that is clean, disciplined, and forward-looking. As citizens, it is our responsibility to rise and support that vision in every possible way,” Chief Aru added.
The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Otti administration’s development agenda and announced plans to replicate similar beautification and environmental renewal projects in other parts of the state in the coming months.
The AFA’s beautification effort marks another example of how civil society and private citizens are aligning with Governor Otti’s New Abia vision, one built on shared responsibility, civic pride, and sustainable growth.
