The Kano State Government has declared it will rebuild the Rogo General Hospital after a fire outbreak that destroyed major parts of the hospital on Friday morning, thereby threatening accessibility of healthcare services to the people of Rogo Local Government Area.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a statement on Saturday, signed by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, called the incident unfortunate and saddening, saying that the hospital takes care of thousands of patients, and an important healthcare center in the region.
The fire, which was thought to be triggered by the malfunctioning of the hospital’s solar-powered system, plunged patients, health workers, and the residents into panic due to the inability of the firefighters to contain the fire.
As a reaction, Governor Yusuf ordered an immediate renovation of the affected areas.
The governor reiterated the concern of the administration in improving healthcare infrastructure in all 44 local government areas in the state and assured the citizens that nothing could be spared in restoring the hospital to its full functionality.
In an interview with NewsNGR, the Administrative Officer of Rogo General Hospital, Nasiru Adamu, revealed that at least nine departments were hit by the fire.
They are the male and the female wards, the Outpatient Department (OPD), the Kachima Clinic and pharmacy, the physiotherapy clinic, the General outpatient Department (GOPD), the Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) clinic of tuberculosis, the main theatre laundry, the main pharmacy and the office of the pharmacist.
Adamu further explained that the inferno destroyed a great amount of medical equipment, drugs, and other hospital inventories.
