A’Ibom Govt Bars Officials From Covering Vehicle Number Plates

The Akwa Ibom State Government has barred government officials from covering their official vehicle number plates.

The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and addressed to top government officials including Commissioners, Special Advisers, Chairmen of Boards and Commissions, Permanent Secretaries, and Heads of Parastatals.

According to the circular titled “Covering of Vehicle Number Plate Banned” (SSG’s Circular No. 7/2025), the decision followed observations that some vehicle owners and operators have developed the habit of covering their number plates, making it difficult for security agencies to identify vehicles and their occupants during operations.

The statement noted that Governor Umo Eno has directed strict enforcement of the ban to enhance the security and safety of residents in line with the ARISE Agenda of his administration.

The circular further instructed government officials who have been allocated official vehicles to obtain Government Registered Number Plates from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government for proper identification.

“Henceforth, anyone caught covering vehicle number plates will have himself or herself to blame. Please be guided accordingly,” the circular warned.

The ban takes effect from Thursday.

Prince Uwah urged all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to give the circular the widest publicity it deserves, emphasizing that the measure is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and ensure transparency in vehicular movement across the State.
