The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reopened its electronic membership registration exercise across the country as the ruling party steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Politics Nigeria reports that the exercise is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026, and will cover wards across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The party said the process is open to both existing members and Nigerians who wish to join the APC.
Existing members are expected to validate their details, while prospective members can use the platform to register with the party.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, announced the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the exercise would help the party build a more reliable and digitally managed membership register as it prepares for another major electoral cycle.
According to Morka, the exercise is also aimed at improving the way the party manages information about its members and uses such data for planning.
“The e-registration exercise is designed to digitise the party’s membership register, ensure the integrity of membership records, enhance efficient access to membership data for planning and management decisions, promote internal democracy, and strengthen the party’s commitment to democratic innovation in Nigeria,” Morka said.
The APC urged party members, supporters and other stakeholders to participate actively in the exercise.
The party said the process would provide an opportunity for existing members to update their records and for new members to formally become part of the organisation.
Nigerians who wish to register must be at least 18 years old. They must also have a valid National Identification Number, NIN.
The requirement is expected to help the party establish a more verifiable membership database and reduce problems associated with inaccurate or duplicated records.
Unlike the traditional system, the electronic process allows membership information to be stored digitally. This is expected to make it easier for the party to access, update and manage its records.
The APC has also continued to push digitalisation as part of its internal reforms.
The party’s leadership has repeatedly linked the electronic membership system to better internal administration and more effective participation in party activities.
Morka called on APC stakeholders at all levels to support the exercise and encourage eligible Nigerians to participate.
He said the success of the process would depend largely on the willingness of party members and supporters to provide accurate information.
The reopening also means that existing APC members cannot simply rely on their previous registration without checking their records.
They are expected to validate their information to ensure that their details are correctly captured in the party’s updated electronic database.
For prospective members, the exercise provides an opportunity to join the ruling party through its digital registration system.
The APC said the exercise would be conducted across wards nationwide, bringing the process closer to party members at the grassroots.
In a related development, the APC had in January 2026 extended its nationwide electronic membership registration exercise after the party recorded more than seven million registrations.
The development was reported on January 30, after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja.
The party initially planned to end the registration on January 31 but moved the deadline to February 8 to allow more people to participate.
Morka explained that the extension was driven by requests from party members and stakeholders who wanted additional time to complete the process.
“With respect to the e-registration, there’s no complicated explanation. We just want more members to register,” Morka said.
He also said the extension was intended to accommodate the enthusiasm shown by members and prospective members during the exercise.
