The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye over his claim to the party’s Ogun State governorship ticket for the 2027 election.
The party said Hunye’s self-declaration as its governorship candidate was false, unauthorised and aimed at misleading the public.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, said Hunye was suspended from the party in April 2026 and could not represent it in any capacity.
Basiru said Hunye’s suspension followed a petition from Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He said the disciplinary action was initiated by the ward executives, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government leadership and approved by the Ogun State Working Committee before it was communicated to the party’s National Secretariat.
“The All Progressives Congress hereby informs the general public, stakeholders, the All Progressives Congress, Ogun State Chapter and the good people of Ogun State that Mr Abayomi Hunye is an impostor who is currently on suspension as a member of the APC,” the statement said.
“His recent self-declaration as the governorship candidate of our great party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorised and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.”
The party said Hunye was suspended on April 7, 2026, following the petition from his ward.
It added that he lacked the legal and moral standing to act or speak on behalf of the APC.
Hunye had faulted the process that produced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State.
He told journalists in Abeokuta that he was challenging the process in court.
But the national leadership of the party maintained that Adeola emerged as its candidate through a validly conducted primary election held in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
The APC said Adeola’s running mate is Balogun Kudirat Abiodun.
According to the party, the names and particulars of Adeola and Abiodun have been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
It said INEC issued acknowledgement slips recognising them as the party’s flag bearers for the Ogun governorship election scheduled for January 2027.
The APC warned individuals, groups and organisations against dealing with Hunye under the party’s name.
“Any person, group or organisation that associates, collaborates or transacts any political business with Mr Abayomi Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk,” the statement said.
“The party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings.”
The party said it had directed its legal team to commence contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with relevant security agencies over what it described as impersonation and misrepresentation.
It urged its supporters in Ogun State to remain calm and ignore actions capable of disrupting peace in the state, reaffirming full support for Adeola’s candidacy ahead of the polls
The APC also asked party members and members of the public seeking clarification on the matter to contact the National Secretariat through the Office of the National Secretary.
