Army Empowers Women With 20 Motorcycles In Sokoto

The empowerment initiative, carried out under the Barracks Women Empowerment Scheme, is designed to support women engaged in petty trading and other small-scale businesses by improving their mobility and access to markets.

Handing over the motorcycles at the NAOWA Leisure Park in the cantonment, the GOC, who is also the Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the gesture reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.

He noted that the motorcycles would ease transportation challenges for women traders, help them manage logistics and ultimately expand their businesses within and outside the barracks.

According to him, the initiative aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to improve the morale and wellbeing of troops and their dependents through sustainable empowerment programmes.

He also commended the Magajiya and other women leaders in the cantonment for their support to serving personnel and their role in promoting peace and harmony within the barracks community.

Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Magajiya of Giginya Cantonment, Hajiya Amina Adamu, expressed appreciation to the GOC for what she described as a “timely and transformative intervention.”

She assured that the motorcycles would be fairly distributed among beneficiaries and properly maintained to achieve the purpose for which they were provided.

The event attracted formation commanders, senior officers, the Chairperson of the 8 Division Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and families of personnel.
