The Nigerian Army has redeployed 15 senior officers, comprising 10 Major Generals and five Brigadier Generals, in a sweeping leadership shake-up affecting frontline operations, intelligence, training institutions and administrative formations across the country.
The postings, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, saw new appointments across strategic formations, including the 3 Division, 6 Division, Army Headquarters Garrison, Nigerian Army Space Command and Defence Headquarters.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, disclosed the redeployments in a statement, saying the exercise was aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, enhancing national security and improving the Army’s capacity to respond to emerging security challenges.
Among the Major Generals, WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola. EI Okoro takes over as GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka, while JR Lar becomes Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison.
Also affected are Major General SA Emmanuel, who has been appointed Commander, Nigerian Army Space Command; Major General O Adegbe, now Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters; Major General KE Chigbu, appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College.
Also, Major General SD Makolo, will head the Nigerian Army Armour School; Major General SO Adejimi, appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport; Major General FS Etim, now Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC); Major General KO Ukandu, appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited; and Major General AI Allison, who becomes Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
The Brigadier Generals affected by the exercise include OM Oyekola, who has been appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army); IB Buhari, now Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade; K Rabiu, appointed Commander, Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade; U Ahmad, who takes over as Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria; and I Waziri, who retains his appointment as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff.
The Army said the redeployments are aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, improving force readiness and enhancing its capacity to tackle emerging security threats nationwide.
