The Nigerian Army Training Depot (NATD) will be established at Amasiri community, Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, aimed at improving security in the state, NEWSNGR gathered on Thursday.
The establishment followed the approval of the initiative by Gov Francis Nwifuru when he received a senior delegation of the Nigerian Army led by the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, alongside stakeholders and traditional rulers from Afikpo LGA at his residence.
Gov Nwifuru stated that the depot, when established, would strengthen security collaboration and advancing strategic development in Ebonyi State and beyond.
He said, “I am pleased to announce that Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area has been approved as the host community for a newly established Nigerian Army Training Depot (NATD). Following extensive consultations, the people of Afikpo granted their consent for the Ebonyi State government to allocate the land and issue a Certificate of Occupancy to the Nigerian Army. With all approvals in place, groundwork is expected to commence immediately.”
He said the development would stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities, attract critical federal infrastructure, and significantly enhance security within Ebonyi State and its environs.
“It will also strengthen civil–military relations, promote national integration, and position our state more prominently within Nigeria’s security architecture,” the governor said.
He said the milestone would further complement other strategic federal investments in Ebonyi State, including the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Navy School in Oferekpe Agbaja, adding that it would reinforce Ebonyi State’s growing profile as a destination for national institutions.
He added, “I commend President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to national security, inclusive development, and equitable distribution of critical federal institutions. I also appreciate the leadership of the Nigerian Army, the people and traditional institutions of Afikpo, and all stakeholders whose cooperation made this achievement possible.”
