In Ipetu-Ijesa, Osun State, six individuals suspected of being part of a cult group were recently taken into custody while on a journey to the South-South region of Nigeria.

A dependable security insider, who preferred not to be named, disclosed that concerned citizens who noticed the suspects at a bus terminal alerted the authorities.

It was reported that as the suspects were about to board a vehicle in Ipetu-Ijesa en route to Ile Oluji, where they planned to transfer to another vehicle leading to Delta State, vigilant locals contacted the Anti Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command.

The source further mentioned that weapons and ammunition were seized from the suspects when the police acted swiftly to apprehend them before they departed from the bus terminal.

An eyewitness stated, “The suspects arrived at the bus terminal where numerous passengers were present.

“Their purported destination was a town in Delta State, but their point of origin remains unclear. Due to the unavailability of direct transportation to their final stop, they sought to board a vehicle headed in the right direction.

“The bus they intended to board was bound for Ile Oluji in Ondo State. Suspicious individuals in the vicinity alerted the police.”

“Subsequent to receiving the tip, law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended the suspects within the confines of the bus terminal. The police confiscated weapons and ammunition from the suspects.”

Confirming the incident, Yemisi Opalola, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, stated that the suspects, traveling from Ilorin in Kwara State, were en route to Delta State when they were intercepted by police personnel at a bus terminal in Ipetu-Ijesa.

Opalola remarked, “We were informed about the presence of some suspected hoodlums in the bus terminal at Ipetu-Ijesa.

“Law enforcement promptly mobilized and arrested the six suspects. Furthermore, four small locally crafted pistols along with 155 rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in their possession.

“The individuals admitted to being associated with the Eiye confraternity from Ilorin in Kwara State, and they were allegedly on their way to Delta State for cult-related activities.”
