Boko Haram Becoming Part Of Our Lives, Warns Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that the Boko Haram insurgency has grown into a “monster” entrenched in Nigeria’s daily reality, urging citizens and leaders alike to begin asking critical questions to effectively confront the menace.

Speaking on Friday at the unveiling of a book titled, ‘Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum’, authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, in Abuja, Obasanjo decried the lingering insurgency and its devastating impact on the country.

“Boko Haram is now virtually becoming part of our life. Should we accept that? If we should not accept it, what should we do? How much do we know? Even from the other side, and from this side, have we been active enough? Have we been proactive enough?” Obasanjo asked.

He stressed that Nigerians must not resign themselves to living with terrorism, but instead take proactive steps by asking “the necessary questions” to dismantle the insurgency that has plagued the country for more than a decade.

Obasanjo, who wrote the foreword to Irabor’s book, commended the retired general for documenting his insider experience in the war against terrorism, describing it as an act of courage and a contribution to history.

The book presentation, which drew dignitaries from across the country, was attended by former President Goodluck Jonathan, service chiefs, former and serving governors, and clerics, among others.
