Borno Police Probe Two Separate Killings In Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command has condemned two disturbing murder cases recorded in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Wednesday.

Command spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso confirmed that the incidents, which involved a woman in Shuwari II and a man in the Polo area, were reported on the same day.

He explained that the first case emerged when the ITE Police Division received a distress complaint from Amos Ibrahim, who reported that his friend’s wife, Rifkatu Yohanna, had been discovered in her room with severe machete wounds.

Police operatives mobilised immediately after the 2 a.m. report and moved the unconscious victim to the State Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death.

The command placed her body in the hospital morgue for autopsy as investigators began piecing together the circumstances of the attack.

Daso stated that “In the course of investigation, one suspect, Salisu Mohammed Nura (also known as Aliyas Amir), has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody, while investigations continue.”

Later the same day, officers at the GRA Police Division responded to another murder report from Bulama Adam, who disclosed that a man with a slitted throat had been found inside a green Honda Civic parked in a remote area of Modari Polo.

The Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, secured the area and recovered the body, which was subsequently taken to the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Investigators established that the vehicle and body had remained at the location for more than 24 hours before discovery.

Daso added that “An ATM card and vehicle particulars bearing the name Muhammed Ibrahim Saje, later confirmed to be that of the victim, were recovered at the scene” and emphasised that “The case is still under investigation.”

Following the separate killings, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, directed that both cases be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet investigation.

He also ordered intensified visibility patrols across Maiduguri to deter criminal activity and warned offenders against committing further violent crimes, stressing that the command will pursue justice for the victims.
