Breast Cancer: First Lady Urges Nigerian Women To Prioritise Health

As Nigeria joins the global campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, First Lady, senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerian women to make their health a priority.

In a message on Monday, Mrs. Tinubu said regular self-examination and timely medical screening remain key in the fight against breast cancer.

“As women, mothers, sisters, and daughters, our health must remain a priority. Early detection saves lives, regular self-examination and timely medical screening are key in the fight against breast cancer,” her message read.

Breast cancer awareness month, also referred to in the United States as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is celebrated globally every October to create awareness about breast cancer.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), breast cancer is the most common cancer globally with around 2.3 million new cases every year. This represents one in eight cancer cases in both sexes and a quarter of all cancers in women with 70 per cent mortality occurring in resource constrained settings.

“This month, let us raise awareness, support survivors, and encourage one another to take proactive steps for a better health,” the First Lady added.
