Court Remands Enugu Guard Over Alleged Murder Of Cousin

A security guard, Mr Emeka Nwangwu, 51, who allegedly killed his cousin at Nsukka last week, has been remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Centre.

Nwangwu was remanded after being charged with murder by the Enugu State Police Command in compliance with the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa.

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said on Wednesday that the command had “arraigned and secured the remand of the 51-year-old Nwangwu, a member of a Neighbourhood Security Watch Group, for the alleged murder of his cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, aged 19”.

Ndukwe said, “The arraignment was carried out today, 10th December 2025, after the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID).”

He recalled that the suspect was arrested on 1st December 2025 in Nsukka following an incident in which he “violently assaulted the deceased, resulting in injuries that tragically led to her death”.

Quoting him, “Upon his arrest, the Commissioner of Police directed the State CID to conduct a meticulous investigation and ensure that the case was promptly charged to court.

“Consequently, the suspect has been arraigned before the Enugu State Magistrate’s Court on a one-count charge of murder. The court ordered his remand and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), for review and legal advice.”

CP Giwa, in the statement, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and urged them to find comfort in the fact that “justice is already in motion, as the investigation has been concluded and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly”.
