“Defection Watch” — Bala Mohammed Set To Announce New Party As APC Counter-Delegation Storms Bauchi Government House

Barely 24 hours after the visit of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to Bauchi to woo the Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to join its party, a powerful delegation of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, landed in Bauchi.

The delegation, which included the Governor of Kano State, Kabiru Abba Yusuf, was at the Governor’s Office within the Government House for undisclosed reasons.

The delegation, which arrived in the State in the afternoon, went into a closed-door meeting with the Governor and a few members of the National Assembly, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abubakar Y Suleiman, the SSG, Aminu Hammayo, Chief of Staff, and others.

Though no details of the meeting, an insider disclosed that it was a reaction to the move by the Governor and his supporters to move to the ADC based on what the Governor had said.

At the end of the meeting, which lasted about 1 hour, anxious Journalists were disappointed as none of the members of the delegation spoke.

As soon as they came out of the Governor’s Office, they headed into their respective vehicles to the airport and back to Abuja.

The Governor, too, declined any comment when Journalists tried to speak to him about the meeting.

All expectations are now focused on Thursday, 2nd April, when the Governor is expected to announce the next political party he will join alongside his supporters as he promised.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Nigeria, has called on the Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to work with it as he concludes arrangements to dump the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for another political party.

IPAC stated that such liaison is very necessary to have inputs in assisting him in making a better choice.

Leadership of IPAC in Bauchi State made the call while addressing Journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday, welcoming his decision to move to another party considering the irrecoverable situation of the PDP.

IPAC added that as the coordinator of political activities in the country, it is ever ready to take the lead in the preparation for the Governor’s movement to another political party.

Chairman of IPAC, Hon. Auwal Isa, stressed that, “Bala Mohammed has the constitutional right to associate with any political party of his choice to be able to participate effectively in political activities.

He added, “We are aware that many political parties are courting him; they want him to be in their camp because of his political relevance not only in Bauchi State but in Nigeria as a whole. Anywhere he goes, the place will definitely shake and be filled with activities.”

The IPAC Chairman added, “We are ready to take the lead, to advise him appropriately on which political party to join but if he has made a decision on where to go to, we are ready to lead him there.”

IPAC then urged the Governor to ensure that whatever step he is taking is in the collective interest of Bauchi State first and the country at large.
