Delta Police Arrest Alleged Drug Dealer, Suspect With 400 Live Cartridges

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations for illegal possession of ammunition and drug trafficking across the state.

In a statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the ‘C’ Division in Asaba intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus loaded with 400 rounds of live cartridges at the Head Bridge area on October 16.

The driver, identified as Ozoemenam Sylvanus, was arrested after officers discovered the concealed ammunition during a stop-and-search operation.

“The suspect initially claimed the parcels contained padlocks but was left speechless when officers uncovered their true content,” Edafe said.

The police added that the investigation was ongoing to trace the source and destination of the ammunition allegedly bound for Edo State.

In another operation, on October 10, operatives of the Orerokpe Division arrested Onos Afokoghene, 37, a suspected drug dealer known for distributing large quantities of narcotics within Warri and nearby communities.

Acting on credible intelligence, the police said its operatives stormed the Jeddo community, where the suspect was apprehended after a brief chase.

Recovered items included 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian hemp, 24 litres of “monkey tail” (Indian hemp soaked in dry gin), several sachets of Tramadol, and two POS machines reportedly used for drug transactions.

The police said Afokoghene is currently in custody, while efforts are underway to identify his network of distributors and buyers.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, reiterated his administration’s commitment to “intelligence-led policing” and urged residents to continue sharing credible information to help curb criminal activities across the state.

“The safety and security of residents remain our top priority. We urge the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly,” Edafe added.
