Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, has approved an upward review of the minimum wage for civil servants in the state, raising it from N70,000 to N90,000.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, shortly after the State Executive Council meeting.
According to Omebe, the decision reflects the governor’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of Ebonyi workers.
He stressed that the new wage structure takes effect immediately and applies to all categories of workers across the state.
“This is not a political statement, as this administration prioritizes the well-being of its workforce,” Omebe assured while addressing journalists.
In addition to the wage increase, the Ebonyi State Government has also cleared outstanding pension arrears and gratuities for retirees dating back to the creation of the state in 1996.
Omebe disclosed that the government has commenced a verification exercise for retirees in all Local Government Areas, after which payments will be made.
He emphasized that the initiative is part of Governor Nwifuru’s “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda, which focuses on governance guided by the needs of the people.
“The EXCO extensively deliberated on this matter and approved its implementation for all concerned, including permanent secretaries and directors,” Omebe added.
The increase in the minimum wage marks a significant step in strengthening Ebonyi State’s workforce and improving the standard of living for workers and retirees alike. With this move, Governor Nwifuru has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating a people.
