The government of Enugu State and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, are to partner towards strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms in the state.
Gov Peter Mbah disclosed this on Thursday via his Facebook page. According to him, the ties were strengthened after the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr Adamu Aliyu, visited him at the Government House, Enugu, on Wednesday.
He said his conversation with the anti-graft boss towards checking corrupt practices in the state was fruitful.
Quoting him, “The conversation aligns strongly with our governance philosophy — anchored on transparency, accountability, and traceability. In Enugu, we have zero tolerance for corruption. We have built systems that are above self and stronger than any individual.”
He stated that among the measures adopted in the state to avert corrupt practices was the ban on collecting cash in the state revenue pattern.
In his words, “No one collects revenue for the government in cash. Whether it is ₦100 or ₦200,000, all payments are made through a digital e-payment platform.”
He recalled that he had shortly after assumption of office signed the Executive Order 001 on the Citizens’ Charter.
“That order places me under obligation to render regular accounts to Ndi Enugu. This is the foundation of our government. We also hold regular consultative town hall meetings with citizens and stakeholder groups — presenting our scorecard and receiving feedbacks. We are building a culture of openness, participation, and trust,” Mbah said.
He further explained that the fight against corruption in the state stemmed from the mission of his administration to grow the state economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in eight years.
He noted that, “The goal will not happen without private investments. But investors don’t follow mission statements; they follow the rule of law, transparency, and the ease of doing business. That is the Enugu we are building.”
