The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has highlighted major strides recorded in aviation security under its current leadership, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding airports across the country.
The Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd), disclosed this while reviewing the achievements of his directorate during the second anniversary of the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, in office.
According to Igbafe, the aviation security directorate has undergone notable improvements, particularly in strengthening the nation’s airport security framework to meet international standards.
He stated that personnel training has been significantly enhanced, with officers receiving modern, security- and intelligence-based training to address emerging threats in airport environments better.
The director also noted that FAAN has deployed modern screening and surveillance equipment across major airports, improving the detection of prohibited items and boosting overall passenger safety.
In addition, access control measures at airports have been reinforced, limiting unauthorized entry into restricted areas and ensuring stricter compliance with aviation security protocols.
Igbafe said collaboration between FAAN and other security agencies has improved, resulting in better coordination, intelligence sharing, and rapid response to security concerns.
These combined efforts, he explained, have contributed to creating a safer airport environment for passengers, airlines, and airport workers nationwide.
He added that the improved security architecture has also helped to restore and strengthen stakeholder confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The FAAN management reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the gains achieved so far while continuing to invest in technology, training, and partnerships to further enhance aviation security across the country.
