The family of a 13-year-old female student of Real Madrid Football Academy in Rivers State has accused the school of trying to cover up a alleged rape incident involving a 17-year-old male classmate.
According to the victim’s elder brother, Uche Sampson, the incident occurred on October 22, 2025, within the school premises.
Sampson alleged that his sister was raped by the 17-year-old boy after she went to pick up her clothes from the hostel. He claimed that the boy hit her on the back, and despite her cries for help, no one intervened.
The victim was allegedly left bleeding and crying in pain, while the school did not provide medical attention or take action against the suspect.
He narrated: “According to her, about 7pm that Wednesday after they had dinner, everybody was going back to their various hostels. She then remembered that she had shed her clothes on the line. She went downstairs to check up on her clothes.
“Only for her to step out of the room, she noticed that a male student was around the hostel.
“She asked him what are you doing there,? ‘ The boy laughed. She ignored him and went about her business to remove her clothes.
“Only for her to notice a hit on her back. She turned. She thought it was a normal thing. The boy hit her, hit her chest. They started fighting. She was shouting, nobody heard her voice.
“The next thing, the boy smashed her head on the staircase overpowered her. And gained access to her through her anus.
“As I speak to you now,the girl is bleeding, crying in pains.The school did not take any action against the boy rather they sent sister back home without medical attention”.
Howeve, the family accused the school of trying to cover-up the matter. When contacted, the Principal of the school referred inquiries to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports.
Meanwhile, the Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the Elekahia Police Division had received complaints from the parents of the alleged victim and that an investigation was ongoing.
Also, Human rights advocate, Prince Wiro, National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, criticized the school for not handing the suspect over to the police for investigation before his parents took him home.
Wiro called on the Rivers State Ministry of Sports and Education to ensure the suspect is handed over to the police for unbiased investigation.
