Family Announces Burial Arrangements For Veteran Nollywood Actor Ogogo

The family of veteran Nollywood actor Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has announced burial arrangements following his passing on Sunday, August 23, at the age of 66.

According to the family, his remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Sunday.

A Laying-in-State ceremony has been scheduled for Monday, August 24 at The Pavilion Ilaro, Ogun State.

Time is 11:00 a.m.

Further details on final burial rites are expected to be announced by the family.

Ogogo was one of the most recognizable faces in Yoruba cinema. Over several decades, he built a career playing strong, principled, and sometimes feared characters — roles that earned him the name “Ogogo” and made him a household name.

He featured in hundreds of Yoruba films and became a respected figure across the Nigerian film industry for his discipline, screen presence, and commitment to indigenous storytelling.

While the family said it received the news “with heavy hearts and profound sadness,” colleagues, fans, and stakeholders in the entertainment industry have begun to pay tribute to the actor.

Many remembered him for his dedication to craft and for helping to grow indigenous language cinema in Nigeria over the years.

The family has asked for prayers during this period.

“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.”
