The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed President Bola Tinubu’s performance in the nation’s capital, describing it as “unprecedented” in the last two years.
Wike made this known on Thursday in Abuja after an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects ahead of the planned inauguration to mark President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being executed across the FCT, attributing the transformation to the leadership and commitment of President Tinubu.
“I am very happy with the achievements recorded by Mr. President, particularly in the FCT. It has never happened before. Tinubu has done tremendously well and this is evident in every part of the country. Nigerians can see it and many are already advocating for him to be given another opportunity to serve,” Wike stated.
He said Abuja had witnessed significant improvements under Tinubu’s leadership, turning around a previously neglected capital into a functional and modern city.
“Yesterday, I said the simple truth. All of us who were critics and said Abuja was not working have now confessed that Abuja is now working. And who has made it to work? It is Mr. President,” he said.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to the assignment given to him by the President to make Abuja a capital city that Nigerians can be proud of.
Speaking on the outcome of his inspection tour, Wike highlighted several key projects nearing completion, including the left-wing service lane of the Outer Southern Expressway, from Apo to Wassa Junction, which he confirmed is now 100 per cent completed.
He revealed that the road would also be equipped with streetlights to enhance security, with the contractor, China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), having already submitted a proposal for the lighting installation.
Other projects inspected include the N20 Interchange, which will link Wole Soyinka Way with the Murtala Mohammed Expressway (popularly known as the Kubwa Expressway), and the access road from Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Dakibiyu District—both slated for completion and inauguration soon.
Wike further said, “Frankly speaking, as I have always said, the residents of Abuja deserve the best. The contractors are doing their best and I can assure you that for me, I cannot give anything less.”
He added that President Tinubu has consistently emphasised the need to deliver the highest standards of infrastructure and governance.
“You can see it yourself in terms of roads and infrastructure—it is unimaginable, and we will continue to build on that,” he added.
Wike also called on residents of the FCT to support the administration by fulfilling their civic obligations, stating that their cooperation is essential for sustainable development in the capital and the nation as a whole.
