FG Commissions Three Road Projects In Kaduna Under Emergency Intervention Scheme

The Federal Ministry of Works on Monday commissioned three major road projects in Kaduna State as part of the Federal Government’s emergency special intervention programme.

The projects, executed under the President Bola Tinubu–led administration, cut across Chukun and Markarfi Local Government Areas and form part of the Ministry’s portfolio of 260 emergency and ecological road projects nationwide.

The first project commissioned was the rehabilitation of the Sabi Rail Bridge–Command Junction stretch of the Western Bypass in Chukun LGA.

The Federal Controller of Works in Kaduna State, Engr Ulagu Loveday, explained that the road, awarded in 2024, had been in a terrible state before intervention.

“Road users and residents were complaining seriously. After it was captured among the 260 emergency road projects, the contract was awarded, and within 3 months, it was completed and commissioned today,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chief Resident Engineer in the State, Engr Sadique Maccido, noted that, due to funding limitations, the ministry adopted targeted rehabilitation methods, including pothole patching, overlays, crack sealing, and shoulder reclamation, to stabilise the corridor.

Speaking at the commission of the second project, a 1.2-kilometre Mahuta NNPC Pipeline to Nigerian Army Post Service Housing road in Chukun LGA of the state,
Loveday said that the contract was awarded in April 2024 and completed within three months.

“This project was completed last year and it is about 1.2 kilometres in length. The quality is still intact,” he said.

On his part, Maccido explained that special construction measures were adopted around the NNPC pipeline corridor.

“NNPC insisted that asphalt must not be laid directly on the pipeline. We treated that section with a stone base only and compensated with asphalt overlays in other parts of the estate,” he said.

The third project, a 4.5-kilometre Taban Sani Road in Markarfi Local Government Area, along the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano highway was commissioned by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North-West, Abdullahi Tanko Yankasai.

He said that the project reflects the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I hereby commission this 4.5-kilometre road for the use of humanity. This project was conceptualised by this administration and today it has come to fruition,” he said.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Kaduna Branch, Engr Arege Samson Bawa, praised the quality of work and the engagement of local contractors.

“As an engineer, I can confirm that this is quality work. I commend the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for engaging local contractors. This project has brought smiles and hope to the people,” he said.
