The National Flood Early Warning Center (FEWS Center) has identified several locations within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) likely to experience heavy rainfall leading to flooding between October 11 and 13, 2025.
The areas at risk in the FCT include Lokogoma, Lugbe, Mabushi, Mararaba, Nyanya, Wuse 1&2, Kuje, Guzape, and Garki 1&2.
In addition to the FCT, other states predicted to witness potential flooding are Anambra State covering Awka, Onitsha, Otuocha, Umueze Anam, and Umugboma; Adamawa State with Song; Enugu State including Nsukka; Rivers State with Bonny; Delta State encompassing Escravos, Okwe, and Oko Anara; Kebbi State with Sakaba; and Taraba State with Wukari.
The statement cautioned communities downstream of River Benue, stretching from Makurdi through Lokoja and Idah to Umueze-Anam and Onitsha, urging them to be vigilant and prepared due to rising water levels.
It also urged relevant stakeholders and state government representatives to take note of the prediction and also provide feedback to the Center.
The statement issued by the Director, Erosion, Flood & Coastal Zone Management Department of the Ministry, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, emphasised the importance of proactive measures to mitigate potential flood impacts.
