Five Arrested Over Attack On 16-Year-Old Girl In Southern Kaduna

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal attack on a 16-year-old girl, Miss Endurance Sabo, whose hand was amputated during an attempted kidnapping in Goska village, Kaninkon Ward of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The suspects were apprehended following what the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area, Mr Peter Tanko Dogara, described as a swift and coordinated intervention involving security operatives in the area.

NewsNGR gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday when armed assailants allegedly attempted to abduct Miss Sabo alongside her grandmother and four younger sisters.

While the grandmother and the other children reportedly managed to escape unhurt, Miss Sabo was captured by the attackers and sustained severe, life-altering injuries before she was eventually rescued by security operatives.

Local sources said the assailants inflicted serious injuries on the teenager during the ordeal, leading to the amputation of one of her hands.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, Dogara, in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr Paul Aliyu, said the intervention followed a distress call from the community.

“Upon receiving the distress call, the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government immediately coordinated with security operatives to launch a rescue operation, which led to the rescue of Miss Endurance Sabo and the arrest of the five suspects,” the statement read.

The council chairman, however, expressed deep regret over the severity of the injuries sustained by the victim.

“Regrettably, she sustained severe injuries during the ordeal, including the amputation of one of her hands,” the statement added.

It was further gathered that Miss Sabo is currently receiving medical attention at the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan.

According to the statement, arrangements are underway for her referral to a tertiary health institution where she can receive more comprehensive and specialised care.

“The victim is now receiving treatment at Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan, and the Council Chairman has promised to take full responsibility for her medical bills,” Dogara said.

“He has also requested the medical team in Kafanchan to refer her to a tertiary health facility where she can receive more comprehensive care.”

The attack has generated outrage and fear among residents of Goska and neighbouring communities, with many calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to flush out criminal elements operating in rural parts of Southern Kaduna.

In response, Dogara appealed for calm, assuring residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the area.

He urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, noting that security agencies had been fully mobilised across the local government.

“The Chairman assured the people of Jema’a Local Government of their safety and urged them to continue with their daily activities without fear, as security agencies have been fully mobilised to ensure a peaceful Yuletide,” the statement said.

Dogara also cautioned against jungle justice and any form of self-help, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

“He urged everyone to remain law-abiding, report any breach of peace promptly to security forces, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” the statement added.

Efforts to get a reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, neither picked up calls nor responded to text messages as of the time of filing this report.
