The Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor Of Abia state, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, has accused elements of the Abia opposition of amplifying trivial matters in a desperate attempt to distract the public from the achievements of Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
In a statement on Thursday, Ukoha described the renewed focus on the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Kenneth Kalu’s decision to take a leave of absence by what he called Umu-Okoko, a group he said operates under the guise of Abia’s social media opposition, as “proof that the opposition has run out of meaningful criticisms.”
According to him, taking a leave of absence is “a globally accepted administrative practice” and should not be turned into a political controversy by individuals “seeking cheap content and attention.”
Ukoha noted that the fixation on the SSG’s leave mirrors what he described as a pattern of baseless and frivolous narratives pushed by the opposition in recent months.
He cited their celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s physical absence during the commissioning of Port Harcourt Road and other projects, despite the fact that, in his words, “the projects themselves stand as undeniable evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.”
He further recalled their claims that Governor Otti was denied access to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu during a visit to the Sokoto Correctional Facility, an allegation he said was circulated without any proof.
The group, he added, also pushed conflicting narratives by alleging that President Tinubu refused to meet Otti at the Villa, while simultaneously accusing the Governor of influencing the dismissal of one of their principal figures for tax evasion.
“These contradictions show a desperate struggle to remain relevant,” Ukoha said.
“Those who once mismanaged Abia’s resources with their displaced Belgium e-Rats are now unemployed liabilities, forced into peddling falsehoods since Otti restored accountability to the government.”
Ukoha emphasized that the Otti administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure renewal, economic revitalization, and transparent governance across Abia State.
He stated that the government will not be distracted by what he called “the diversionary antics of Umu-Okoko,” insisting that the development strides recorded so far speak louder than the opposition’s attacks.
“The people of Abia deserve leadership grounded in service, not political theatrics,” he said. “That is exactly what Governor Otti is providing.”
