Glo At 23: Staff Ignite A Day of Sports Camaraderie, Celebration

Staff of Globacom on Saturday traded the rhythms of the workplace for the pulse of sporting competition and conviviality as they gathered at The Stable, Surulere, Lagos, for a spectacular day of games, football and celebration to mark the telecommunications giant’s 23rd anniversary.

The anniversary, which fell on Saturday, provided a fitting opportunity for members of the Glo family to step away from their usual professional routines and reconnect in an atmosphere where competition met camaraderie.

Tagged ‘Glo Fitfest 2026’, the colourful sporting fiesta featured an eclectic array of activities, including table tennis, Big Ludo, Big Snooker, Beer Pong, Sack Race, Big Ayo and, most prominently, a fiercely contested football competition involving teams drawn from different departments of the company.

The departmental teams were organised into clusters, an arrangement designed to deepen collaboration.

Dressed in specially designed coloured T-shirts, the staff brought an infectious energy to the venue. For a few hours, the familiar language of deadlines, targets and deliverables gave way to cheers, banter, laughter and the joy of play.

The football tournament, unsurprisingly, emerged as the crowning spectacle of the day. Beyond the natural popularity of the beautiful game, the matches generated a healthy rivalry that transformed the football pitch into a theatre of passion, strategy and competitive pride.

Some departments went a step further, bringing in colleagues who were accomplished footballers from outside Lagos, adding an intriguing professional edge to the contest. Yet beneath the rivalry was one unmistakable objective: to emerge victorious and claim bragging rights over their competing colleagues.

That strategy proved decisive for Glo Rockets, comprising members of the company’s Sales Force and the Value Added Services department.

Reinforced by some of the company’s footballing talents from the regions, the team produced a commanding performance to defeat Strikers FC, made up of staff from the Rollout, Information Systems, Gloworld Development and E-Pin departments.

The victory earned Glo Strikers a giant trophy and a cash prize of N1 million, while the runners-up received N750,000. Players from both sides were presented with medals in recognition of their performances, while winners across the other sporting disciplines were similarly rewarded with medals and cash prizes.

Beyond the trophies, medals and monetary rewards, however, Glo Fitfest 2026 offered something less tangible but perhaps more enduring: a renewed sense of belonging.

For Globacom, which has traversed 23 years of innovation, enterprise and transformation, the event was more than a sporting outing.

It was a celebration of the people behind the enterprise—the men and women whose ideas, dedication and resilience have helped carry the Glo story across more than two decades.
