Leading provider of digital and connectivity services, Globacom is celebrating the legacy of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, at this year’s Ojude Oba festival. This marks the 21st consecutive edition of the cultural event supported by the company.
Themed “Ojude Oba 2026: Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona”, the event is taking place at the Festival Arena opposite the royal palace in Ijebu Ode. The celebration honours the remarkable achievements of the revered monarch, who joined his ancestors on July 13, 2025, after an illustrious 65-year reign.
Globacom affirmed in a statement issued in Lagos that Oba Adetona’s commitment to preserving and promoting Ijebu culture, traditions and values inspired the company’s long-standing support for the festival.
According to the company, its involvement in this year’s celebration goes beyond sponsorship and reflects a desire to honour the legacy of a monarch whose vision and dedication elevated Ojude Oba into one of Nigeria’s most respected cultural events.
“For us, this year’s edition is not just about sponsoring the festival as we have done over the past twenty years. It is about celebrating the exemplary legacies of the revered father, Oba Adetona, who spared no efforts to place the festival on an enviable pedestal,” the company stated.
During his reign, Oba Adetona transformed Ojude Oba into a unifying platform that brought together Ijebu sons and daughters from across the world, regardless of religious affiliation. It was this commitment to unity and cultural preservation that inspired Globacom to begin supporting the celebration 21 years ago.
Over the past two decades, the company’s support has helped the event grow into a globally recognized cultural gathering that attracts visitors, dignitaries and tourists from within and outside Nigeria.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, Globacom said it will continue to support Ojude Oba as part of its broader efforts to showcase the country’s culture and traditions on the global stage.
Oba Adetona was enthroned on April 2, 1960, and reigned for 65 years. Under his leadership, Ojude Oba grew significantly in profile and popularity, cementing its place as one of Nigeria’s foremost cultural festivals.
