Fans of Netflix’s The Polygamist are in for a treat this week as South African actors Gugu Gumede and S’Dumo Mtshali feature on the latest edition of Globacom-sponsored African Voices, CNN’s 30-minute magazine programme.
Hosted by Larry Madowo in Johannesburg, the episode brings the on-screen couple together for an engaging conversation about their careers, life in the film industry, and the experiences that have shaped them. They also speak openly about navigating fame, avoiding typecasting and their advocacy for stronger protection and better opportunities for actors.
The Polygamist follows the story of a husband whose infidelity turns his family’s seemingly perfect life upside down, drawing them into the unexpected and often complicated world of polygamy. The series has captivated audiences with its emotional storytelling and compelling performances.
For Gugu Gumede, who plays Joyce Gomora, acting has been a journey built on passion and dedication. The 34-year-old actress trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and is also widely recognised for her roles as Mandisa in Generations and Mamlambo, the prophetess, in Uzalo, one of South Africa’s most-watched television series.
S’Dumo Mtshali, who stars as Jonasi Gomora, first gained national attention after winning SABC1’s reality competition Class Act in 2010. Since then, he has built an impressive career with leading roles in productions including Intersexions, Inside Story, Avenged, iNumber Number: Jozi Gold, Back of the Moon and The 4 of Us.
This special double-feature episode airs Saturday at 8 a.m. on DSTV channel 401, with repeats the same day at 11 a.m.; Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Monday at 3 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.; and Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. More repeats follow next Saturday at 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Monday at 3 a.m.
