Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has confirmed that his deputy, Murtala Garo, will remain his running mate in the 2027 governorship election, reaffirming confidence in their political partnership ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The governor made the announcement during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, according to a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Sunusi Tofa.
Mr Yusuf said his decision was informed by Garo’s loyalty, commitment and significant contributions to the administration since assuming office, describing the deputy governor as a dependable partner who has consistently demonstrated competence, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” the governor said.
He noted that Garo’s support had strengthened the administration’s efforts to implement its development agenda and fulfil campaign promises to the people of Kano State.
“His contributions have been remarkable, and his commitment to the progress of Kano State has remained unquestionable. Together, we will continue to work towards achieving the goals we set for our people,” Mr Yusuf added.
The governor also called on party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We must remain focused, united and committed as we continue to build on the progress recorded by this administration and prepare for the challenges ahead,” he said.
The announcement formally confirms the continuation of the Yusuf-Garo ticket for the 2027 governorship election, signalling the governor’s intention to maintain continuity within his administration as political activities ahead of the polls begin to take shape.
