A group, Grassroots Initiatives for Good Governance, on Tuesday, commended the swift rescue of the two reverend sisters who were recently kidnapped in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
NEWSNGR reports that Reverend Sisters Theresa Ukwuaba and Florian Amadi were rescued a few days after their kidnapping following a swift response by the security operatives of Igboeze South LGA.
The Chairperson of the group, Comrade Emmanuel Ukwuaba, said the rescue of the women by the operatives proved the group’s earlier calls for state police in Nigeria.
According to him, “The rescue was enhanced because the locals knew the terrain of the environment, and they were also coordinated. We commend the council chairman for being in touch with his people.
“We learnt that he activated all the apparatuses in the area to ensure the rescue of the sisters and other victims of the incident. He is not alien to his people.”
The council Chairman, Mr Ferdinand Ukwueze, had earlier visited the two Catholic reverend sisters at the New Evangelisation Sisters’ Home, Emene, in Enugu.
During the visit, he thanked Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his immediate and timely response during the kidnapping incident.
Quoting him, “It was deeply reassuring to witness their steady recovery from the physical and emotional trauma they endured. Their strength in the face of trouble is humbling and inspiring.”
Hon. Ukwueze said the visit to the rescued sisters was to show solidarity with them.
According to him, “It is a reaffirmation of our administration’s unyielding commitment to the security and well-being of every citizen and resident of Igbo-Eze South.
“What happened in Eburumiri remains a painful reminder of the work ahead in dismantling all forms of criminality threatening our peace and stability.
“As a government, we are resolute in ensuring that those behind this reprehensible act are brought to justice.
“We are intensifying collaboration with security agencies and deploying strategic interventions to reinforce intelligence gathering and rapid response measures across all vulnerable flashpoints in the local government area.
“Beyond security operations, we are committed to providing comprehensive medical, psychological and moral support to the victims of the distressing incident.”
Our correspondent reports that the reverend sisters were among the nine people abducted on 26 April at Eburumiri, Ibagwa-Aka, a community in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area. The victims were, however, rescued a few days later during a joint security operation.
