Ilaro Chief Imam Returns Late Actor Ogogo’s ₦25m To Family

The family of the late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has officially confirmed the receipt of ₦25 million from Sheikh Muhammad Tajudeen Mustapha Adewunmi, the Chief Imam of Ilaro.

The handover was validated by both the cleric and the late actor’s family during the eighth-day Fidau prayer held in memory of the actor in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State.

According to Sheikh Adewunmi, the late actor entrusted the sum to him while he was ill, with specific instructions to oversee the renovation of his grandfather’s house in Ilaro.

The Imam used the Fidau gathering to address reports circulating online that the money was meant for a mosque renovation.

In a video from the event, he said: “The ₦25 million sent by the actor was meant for rebuilding his own grandfather’s house rather than a mosque project, and the funds have since been returned to the Ogogo family.”

He bemoaned false reports by some bloggers and clarified that the funds were never intended for any religious project.

“The money was never meant for any mosque project. Ogogo sent the ₦25 million when he was sick. He intended to use the money to renovate his grandfather’s house,” the Chief Imam stated.

He also confirmed that the money had been handed over to the late actor’s children and family.

Sheikh Adewunmi’s decision to return the money has drawn widespread admiration across social media, with many applauding his honesty and transparency.

Commenters described the cleric as a “true man of God” and prayed for Allah’s rewards for him.

Others also honoured Ogogo for his gesture and commitment to his family roots.

The family expressed appreciation for the cleric’s integrity and for ensuring that Ogogo’s wishes for his family home in Ilaro were respected.

The clarification puts to rest speculation surrounding the purpose of the substantial sum and offers insight into Ogogo’s final wishes before his death.

His decision to commit the money towards restoring his grandfather’s home was described as a reflection of his connection to his family heritage.

The 8-day Fidau brought together family members, friends, colleagues, community leaders and sympathisers who gathered to honour the actor and pray for the repose of his soul.
