Imam, Yesufu Lead ADC Membership Revalidation, Registration Drive

A former two-time governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno State, Kashim Imam, and political activist, Aisha Yesufu have been picked to lead a membership revalidation, mobilisation and registration drive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Iman was appointed chairman of the 20-member committee, while Yesufu will serve as deputy chairman.

Also, spokesman for the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko; the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbolahan Rhodes-Vivour; and a former PDP Youth Leader, Abdullahi Maibasira, are also in the committee.

The committee, which was unveiled by the leadership of the party in Abuja on Wednesday, was given 30 days to complete the assignment.

While inaugurating the committee, the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, said no political party can aspire to national relevance without a strong, active, and properly documented membership.

“Membership is the lifeblood of any democratic organization. It determines legitimacy, strength, reach, and ultimately, electoral victory,” Mark said.

The party chair stressed the need for the ADC to revalidate its existing members, register new ones, strengthen grassroots presence, and harmonise membership records nationwide.

Stating the critical nature of the committee’s assignment, Mark said the responsibility placed on the committee is both demanding and historic.

He urged members to discharge their duties with integrity, fairness, transparency, and a deep sense of patriotism to the party.

“You must approach this assignment without bias, favoritism, or exclusion, bearing in mind that unity and credibility are the foundation upon which the future of the ADC will be built.

“Let me emphasize that this exercise is not about exclusion, but inclusion, strengthening, organising, and repositioning our party to meet the expectations of Nigerians, who yearn for credible leadership and democratic governance, the party chair added.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of himself and others, the committee’s chairman, Imam, promised to return the ADC to the average Nigerian.

“For too long have the average Nigerian been cheated, marginalised and taxed. Now tax actually, is the new thing.

“We will endeavor to ensure that we invite the peasants, the ordinary Nigerian, the masses, the poor, the downtrodden, to take charge, to take responsibility, to assume ownership of the ADC,” Imam said.

The committee chair promised
to ensure that the average Nigerian gets a fair share in the party.

“This country is blessed. Our country is endowed with human and natural resources. We have no business being poor and when the ADC comes to power, no Nigerian will be poor,” he assured.
