IPOB Reaffirms Commitment To Peaceful Protest For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has restated its commitment to a peaceful nationwide protest aimed at demanding the release of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

POB, in a statement issued on Friday and made available to NewsNGR, and signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, dismissed recent reports attributed to a faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo claiming to oppose the planned demonstration.

IPOB described the publication as misleading and an attempt to create confusion among the public.

According to Powerful, “There is only one legitimate Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, ably led by Senator Mbata, not any faction being promoted for political reasons.”

He alleged that certain groups were being used to issue false statements to divert attention from what he described as the real issue—the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu despite previous court rulings.

“The attention of all well-meaning Igbo sons and daughters across the globe has been drawn to another piece of propaganda aimed at undermining the collective demand for justice.

“The purpose of such false narratives is to distract our people from the call for Kanu’s unconditional release,” he said.

Powerful stated that IPOB remains committed to nonviolence and that the nationwide #FreeMaziNnamdiKanuNow march, being organized by civil rights activists and concerned Nigerians, is strictly peaceful in nature.

“No true Igbo son or daughter will oppose a peaceful march calling for justice and freedom for one of our own—Mazi Nnamdi Kanu—who has endured years of detention for exercising his right to free expression,” he said.

He urged members of the public to disregard any divisive publications and to focus instead on the call for justice and adherence to the rule of law.

“The peaceful #FreeMaziNnamdiKanuNow march is not a protest of violence; it is a protest of conscience,” he said, explaining that “It represents the last shred of dignity left in a country that must not normalise injustice.”

Powerful reaffirmed that IPOB, the Nnamdi Kanu Global Defence Consortium, and the recognized Ohanaeze leadership are united in the pursuit of peace, justice, and fairness.

He called on all supporters of Kanu across the world to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as the group continues to seek lawful avenues for his release.

The protest to free Nnamdi Kanu is being led by Omoyele Sowore.
