Kaduna Unveils Toll-Free Hotlines To Report Gender- Based Violence

The Kaduna State Government has launched three toll-free hotlines to encourage the reporting of gender-based violence (GBV) cases and improve access to support services for survivors across the state.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, unveiled the dedicated lines—08000070070, 07058890117 and 07058890116—during the Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group Coordination Meeting held in Kaduna.

Salisu said the initiative forms part of efforts to tackle the persistent challenge of underreporting and ensure survivors receive timely assistance.

According to her, the hotlines will provide immediate support to victims and facilitate prompt reporting of cases, enabling authorities and relevant agencies to respond more effectively.

“The unveiling of these toll-free hotlines, referral directory and protocol is more than the launch of communication tools. It is the establishment of a stronger and more responsive system that ensures survivors are heard, protected and connected to timely support services,” she said.

The commissioner explained that the newly introduced referral directory would connect survivors to healthcare, psychosocial services, legal aid, security agencies and social welfare support, while the referral protocol would promote coordinated and confidential responses among stakeholders.

She noted that Governor Uba Sani’s administration remains committed to protecting women, children and other vulnerable groups through a zero-tolerance approach to violence.

Salisu disclosed that Kaduna State had secured 34 convictions in gender-based violence cases between July 2023 and 2025 but stressed that many incidents still go unreported.

She urged residents to utilise the newly launched hotlines, saying increased reporting would strengthen efforts to prevent abuse, ensure justice for victims and improve access to support services.

The commissioner added that Kaduna remains one of the leading states in Nigeria in gender-based violence reporting and prevention, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening protection mechanisms for survivors.
