The senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Rufa’i Hanga, resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
After weeks of speculation, the Kano Central District senator, Rufa’i Hanga, has resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In the letter, Mr Hanga expressed gratitude to the ward executive committee and party members for their fellowship and shared experiences during his time in the party, noting that his decision to withdraw was made after careful personal reflection to pursue other commitments and career paths.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to you, the Ward Executive Committee, and the entire membership of Dakata Ward for the opportunities, support, and fellowship I enjoyed during my time with the party.
“I request that my name be formally removed from the party register at the ward level,” the letter read, confirming the surrender of their official NDC membership card, Mr Hanga stated.
While the official resignation letter cites personal commitments, political analysts and party insiders view his exit as part of a strategic realigning of political forces in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Hanga has been speculated to be moving to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after meeting with President Bola Tinubu and the party’s leadership in Kano and Abuja.
The senator’s resignation from the NDC is expected to trigger further cross-party movements in the coming days, as key politicians in the Kano Central District set the stage for realignments ahead of the elections.
