Lagos Begins Removal Of Illegal Structures Along Lagos–Badagry Expressway

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (LAGESC), in collaboration with enforcement teams from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, have commenced a major clearance operation along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.

The operation, aimed at removing illegal structures, clearing obstructions, and restoring order along the busy corridor, began at Alakija, progressed through Iyana Iba, and is currently ongoing opposite the Lagos State University (LASU). Enforcement activities are also active at Alaba Market.

Speaking on the exercise in a post on X on Monday, Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, said the operation is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the free flow of traffic, enhance safety, and maintain environmental compliance along the route.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Agency (LAGESC), in collaboration with other enforcement team of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, have commenced clearance operations at Alakija. The operation has since progressed through Iyana Iba and is currently ongoing opposite Lagos State University (LASU), with active enforcement at Alaba Market along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway,” he wrote.

“The exercise is aimed at removing illegal structures, clearing obstructions, and restoring order and free flow of traffic along the corridor.”
