Ministry Partners Police, DSS To Prosecute Exam Malpractice Offenders

The Federal Ministry of Education said it is working closely with the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure that those involved in examination malpractice face the law.

This is coming after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) disclosed that over 3,000 candidates were involved in examination malpractice during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME).

A statement by the Ministry’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, stated that the ministry has declared a zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice and announced plans to prosecute offenders.

According to the statement, the Ministry is deeply concerned about the persistent issue of examination malpractice, which undermines the credibility of academic credentials and threatens Nigeria’s human capital development.

“The Examination Malpractice Act of 1999 and other applicable laws provide the legal foundation for these decisive actions,” the statement said.

The Ministry urged all stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and school administrators, to join efforts in combating examination malpractice.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure that examinations remain a true measure of knowledge and competence,” the Ministry stated. “Our students deserve a system that rewards merit and prepares them for success in a rapidly evolving global landscape.”

The Ministry also called on the public to report any cases of malpractice to the relevant authorities.

“The public is strongly encouraged to report any cases of examination malpractice to the appropriate authorities. Together, we can restore integrity and excellence in our educational institutions,” the statement said.

The statement added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at promoting excellence and integrity in Nigeria’s education system.
