Mustapha Salihu withdraws from Adamawa APC governorship race, accepts Senate bid

An All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant in Adamawa State, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, has withdrawn from the party’s gubernatorial race following directives from the national leadership of the party.

Mr Salihu announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head of Strategic Communication of his campaign organisation, Ahmad Sajoh.

According to the statement, the APC chieftain has now accepted to contest for the senatorial seat of Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone under the platform of the party.

“The Comrade Mustapha Salihu Campaign Organisation wishes to inform his coordinators and teaming supporters that, following directives from the leadership of the party at the national level, he has stepped down from the gubernatorial elections and will take up the senatorial candidature of the Central Senatorial Zone,” the statement said.

Mr Salihu expressed appreciation to the people of Adamawa State, particularly members and supporters of the APC, for the support and goodwill extended to him during his governorship aspiration.

He said the encouragement he received from party members and supporters across the state remained a source of inspiration and motivation.

The APC stalwart also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and pledged continued support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“He reiterates his unflinching support and commitment for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the success of APC in the 2027 elections,” the statement added.

Mr Salihu’s withdrawal is expected to reshape the political permutations within the APC ahead of the party’s governorship primaries in Adamawa State.

Political observers say the development may further strengthen ongoing consultations and alignments within the ruling party as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
