Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has absorbed over 700 ad-hoc staff of state-owned tertiary institutions, bringing an end to years of uncertainty and neglect.
The workers who had served for over a decade were finally employed by the state government.
The institutions had been operating with a crippling employment embargo dating back to 2007, relying heavily on temporary and casual staff.
The new development has brought relief to hundreds of families who had been struggling to make ends meet on meager salaries.
According to the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang had made it clear that his administration would not tolerate injustice.
The statement noted that the governor instituted a transparent review of the employment exercise, reinstating qualified staff and absorbing long-serving ad-hoc staff into the mainstream service.
One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the governor’s action had restored their dignity and hope.
“Where we were ignored, he visited us. Where we were segregated, he embraced us. Where we faced marginalisation, Governor Mutfwang restored us,”he said.
He noted that the governor’s gesture has been praised as a demonstration of leadership that values fairness and justice.
The beneficiaries also pledged loyalty and renewed commitment, saying the move had brought them victory over despair.
The statement noted that the move has also boosted the state’s education sector, with Plateau Polytechnic seeing a rise in student enrollment and the College of Education getting approval for new degree programs.
