The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has explained that the network challenges currently affecting telecommunications subscribers in Abuja are due to disruptions in diesel supply.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s spokesperson, Nnenna Ukoha, said the situation has impacted the operations of key telecommunications infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to her, the NCC is working closely with major stakeholders and licensed operators to resolve the service disruptions as quickly as possible.
Ukoha noted that the challenges are largely linked to a disruption in diesel supply affecting IHS Nigeria Limited.
She explained that IHS Nigeria Limited is the colocation service provider responsible for powering base stations used by Airtel and MTN in the affected areas.
The spokesperson stated that the diesel supply disruption was caused by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA).
She added that these actions led to interruptions in diesel delivery to critical sites, resulting in telecommunications service outages across parts of Abuja.
Ukoha emphasised that the NCC is committed to ensuring seamless communication services for all Nigerians.
She stressed that a reliable power supply remains essential for the effective delivery of optimal telecommunications services.
The NCC, she said, is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to address the diesel supply issues and explore more sustainable solutions.
The Commission has also urged all parties involved to work collaboratively to remove the diesel supply bottlenecks affecting critical telecommunications infrastructure.
Ukoha concluded by stating that the NCC is facilitating dialogue among service providers and stakeholders to restore full services, while thanking subscribers for their patience and understanding.
