NECO releases 2026 BECE results, schedules re-sit exams

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) conducted across the country.

A total of 126,291 candidates registered for the examination in 12 subjects, which was held between April 20 and April 30, 2026.

Azeez Sani, the council’s acting director of information and public relations, announced the release of the results in a statement issued on Thursday after the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting in Minna, Niger state.

Folake David, the chairperson of the award committee and director of basic education at the federal ministry of education, who represented Maruf Alausa, the education minister, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the results.

The committee also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE re-sit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

According to NECO, the re-sit examination is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both, enabling them to obtain the required certification for admission into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating an academic year.

The BECE is conducted annually by NECO for pupils completing Nigeria’s nine-year Basic Education programme and serves as a key requirement for progression to senior secondary education.
